Biography

When Charlotte Detrick was six months old, her parents, both from Denmark, settled in South Florida, where her father found work as a cruise ship captain. At a young age Charlotte began rigorous training in classical ballet, and as a teenager performed professionally with the Miami Ballet Company. Musical theatre productions in high school and singing in church led her to study voice, and she eventually made the switch to opera, graduating from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's Degree in Music/Vocal Performance.

Since moving to New York City, Charlotte has appeared with many local companies, including the New York City Opera, Opera Northeast, Brandenburg Opera, Concert Opera of Philadelphia, the Liederkranz Opera Theatre, and the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players. She has especially distinguished herself in the operetta genre, having performed lead and supporting roles in all thirteen G&S collaborations (see "Press"), including Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore, Elsie in Yeoman of the Guard, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, Aline in The Sorceror, and Lady Psyche in Princess Ida. Among her operatic credits are the roles of Abigail in Robert Ward's The Crucible, Marguerite in Faust, Hannerl in Das Dreimaderlhaus, and the title role in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah.

Ms. Detrick's concert appearances include performances with the Lima Area Concert Band as the featured guest soloist, soprano soloist in The Messiah with the Van Wert Chamber Orchestra, soprano soloist with the Metropolitan Greek Chorale in Saint-Saens' Christmas Oratorio, and featured guest artist at the Huntsville Festival in Ontario, Canada. As a champion of new works, she has premiered art songs, oratorios, and operas. Most recently, she performed the leading role of Brigitte in the world premiere of The Yellow Star at the Museum of Jewish Heritage--A Living Memorial to the Holocaust.

Charlotte resides in NYC with her husband, composer Bradley Detrick and their son Zachary.
